It all started with a dream. Looking back to 1973 in Columbus, Montana, a local rancher started building buckles in a small, custom shop to fill a need for awards in his community. Over the years, developing this grassroots business Montana Silversmiths grew the western and custom buckle business exponentially and by 1976 they stretched their creativity and artistry to a successful launch into the jewelry market.

Montana Silversmiths deals with precious stones, sterling silver, and gold every day; yet recognizes our most precious asset, is the people behind the product. The longstanding value of quality work is engrained in the company culture. Led by a passion for Western life and our heritage, Montana Silversmiths translates the beauty of nature found in our surroundings and reflects that through the story-telling of our designs, whether it’s a long scroll, feather, or floral accent.

Engrained into our company culture is the longstanding value of quality work. Montana Silversmiths, since its inception, has set the gold and silver standard of excellence in design and craftsmanship. Every tiny etch and bevel-cut on a buckle is planned and perfectly executed. Each stone is inspected and bead-set by hand into a bezel setting and each corner expertly painted by caring hands. Montana Silversmiths pairs traditional western elements with trending fashion by utilizing innovative technology to ensure we bring the best to each customer. Our goal is to remain true to our values while expanding our jewelry and buckles in an ever-changing and demanding marketplace with a dedicated focus on our products, programs, and partnerships.

Before the product is nestled into the signature blue velvet box by Montana Silversmiths, it must go through a rigorous design and development process. The ideas for buckles and jewelry are born on the designer’s sketch pad. A special panel narrows down hundreds of options, then revises them over and over to meet the direction inspired by the season and market trends. The approved sketches are then sent to the master engravers to translate the drawings into 3-D reality. The molded pieces are analyzed, quality tested. The items are sampled in a variety of color finishes, which could include sterling silver, rose gold, yellow gold, black gunmetal, or paint treatments, and adorned with precious and semi-precious stones. After careful review, the selected pieces make it to a catalog or presented to the customer.

Montana Silversmiths believes that there is a little bit of Montana in everyone. Meaning everyone, regardless of background, can wear the West their way. Whether you live on a working ranch or suburbia, discover the romance of the West by wearing the West your way. Discover something for everyone with Montana Silversmiths.
